Our client, replacing the traditional insurance brokerage with AI supercharged risk management, is looking for a Staff Software Engineer in New York.They partner with hundreds of high growth, category defining companies across consumer brands, hospitality, general contracting, advanced manufacturing and next generation defence. Rather than a fragmented manual brokerage stack, they have built elite risk advisors operating on top of proprietary technology, including an in-house agency management system that gives their team and AI agents full visibility into policies, exposures, claims, billing and commissions. Founded by the co-founder of a well known proptech unicorn alongside a former consultant and investor, they have raised over $43M from leading investors and grew more than 10x last year while cash flow positive. Expected pay is $180,000 to $275,000.Role & Responsibilities:- Architect, build and scale key parts of the platform while setting the technical and cultural bar- Write production code daily in a deeply hands on staff role- Design system architecture for automation across policies, exposures, claims, billing and commissions- Build the platform that both risk advisors and AI agents operate on- Elevate the team through clear communication, mentorship and calm collaboration- Own outcomes with autonomy rather than layers of processSkills & Experience:- Senior or staff level engineer with a track record architecting and scaling production platforms- Writes clean, type safe code and genuinely cares about maintainability- Thinks in trade offs rather than absolutes, and can explain why a solution fits the context- Clear communicator, calm under pressure and ego free collaborator- Thrives in lean, fast moving environments and enjoys ambiguity- Wants real ownership and autonomy in an in-person New York team
