Our client, a company building large scale compute infrastructure for AI, is looking for a Principal Operations Engineer for mechanical systems.They acquire power, design and build data centers and operate them, accelerating toward 100 GW by the end of the decade. The Data Center Operations team runs flawless operations inside live construction zones and writes the playbook rather than inheriting one. This role is the most senior technical authority for operational mechanical systems across the portfolio. Base salary is $150,000 to $250,000 plus equity.Role & Responsibilities:- Act as the most senior technical authority for operational mechanical systems across the estate- Own thermal precision for AI workloads across chilled water, chillers, cooling towers, CRAH and CRAC units, pumps, CDUs and direct liquid cooling in live environments- Author and execute high risk mechanical MOPs- Lead root cause analysis on significant cooling events through to closure- Assess operational readiness at any site, audit posture and raise the standard- Teach and build the mechanical readiness of teams ahead of activationSkills & Experience:- Career spent on critical mechanical systems in live, mission critical environments- Command of chilled water plants, chillers, cooling towers, CRAH and CRAC, pumps, CDUs and direct liquid cooling- Track record authoring and executing high risk mechanical MOPs- Proven root cause analysis leadership on significant cooling events- Ability to audit site readiness and lift standards across multiple locations- Bonus: hyperscale or large colocation at hundreds of MW, DLC and CDU operations, ASHRAE TC 9.9, chilled water plant optimisation, Uptime Institute
