Our client, an AI company building agents for the logistics industry, is looking for a Senior or Staff Backend Engineer in San Francisco.Global trade still runs on manual, document heavy workflows, and their AI works alongside humans to process shipments faster and with fewer errors. They are past the zero to one phase with clear product market fit, seeing over 100% month on month revenue growth and live with customers processing meaningful operational volume. They have raised $5M from two well known early stage funds, and the team comes from Google, LinkedIn, Salesforce and top AI research labs. This is a high ownership role owning the core data infrastructure behind the platform, in person in San Francisco, with up to $300K base at senior level and up to $350K at staff, plus meaningful equity.Role & Responsibilities:- Own the core data infrastructure powering an AI driven logistics platform- Architect and scale distributed backend systems, defining service boundaries and queue pipelines- Build for failure with retry strategies, circuit breakers and graceful degradation- Own database design, observability and the communication hub- Design systems that ingest, process and serve real time logistics data across AI pipelines, queues, databases and search layers- Set technical direction for the backend and give other engineers foundations they can build on with confidenceSkills & Experience:- Computer science degree, with a minimum of 4 years professional backend engineering experience- Background at a company with a high technical bar or a successful early stage startup, rather than corporate or card environments- Track record shipping backend systems end to end in fast moving, ambiguous environments- Sound architectural trade offs under time pressure, revisited as requirements evolve- Ability to scope, build and ship new capability inside sprint cycles without sacrificing correctness or resilience- Energised by in person work alongside founders and engineers, resolving complex blockers independently
